Segundo relatório da ONU, um último aviso foi dado, que se as emissões globais de dióxido de carbono fossem cortadas pela metade até 2030 e efetivamente eliminadas até 2050, ainda haveria, uma chance de limitar o aquecimento a 1,5°C acima dos níveis pré-industriais. Caso contrário os danos serão irreversíveis.
